I thought tonight's show was good. At this point I really don't want to see any of the contestants go. I think they are all very talented. Unfortunately, someone has to go home every week.
Syesha "One Rock and Roll Too Many" - It was nice to see her actually get into a song and feel completely at ease with it. I thought she did a good job with it.
Jason "Memory" - I figured that someone would be singing this song tonight, but I never would have guessed that it would have been a guy - and I especially never would have thought it would be Jason who sang it. I don't think his vocals were spot on, but I still liked his version of it. I think he did better than the judges gave him credit for.
Brooke "You Must Love Me" - I am really disappointed that she didn't sing the song that I wanted her to sing because I think she could have done a great job with it. I was disappointed with her little mess-up of the words, but I guess she's gutsy enough to start over. It's not quite as smooth though when she's not at the piano...it's much more obvious. I feel like she's really struggled with her sound the past few weeks. I think she's had a hard time doing her type of music with the themes she's been given. I really think this week hurt her and I think she might be the one to go this week. I'm a fan so I'd like to see her stay and redeem herself!
David Archuleta "Think of Me" - Once again I was a little surprised by the song choice, but I think he did a great job. I liked it a lot and I especially liked his arrangement of it. Great job, David!
Carly "Jesus Christ Superstar" - I think Andrew Lloyd Webber was right to have her switch songs. She did a great job with this song. I agree with the judges that it was a little screechy in the middle, but I think this was a really strong night for her.
David Cook "Music of the Night" - Yay, he took my advice! I was so hoping that he would put "his" spin on this song though. I think it could have been very eerie sounding and powerful if he had made his own arrangement of it. However, I still think he did a good job. I just would have liked to see more of him in it.
Bottom Three: Syesha, Brooke, Jason. I really think Brooke might be in trouble this week. I think she kind of shot herself in the foot. Hopefully America can be forgiving and give her another chance, but I don't know.

Results Show
So, I wasn't too surprised to see that Brooke was in the bottom two. After watching her performance again, I think she would have done a much better performance had she used the band, instead of playing the piano. However, I am glad that she's still around. I agreed with Paula in thinking that Ryan should have been the one sent home tonight, but I also agree with Simon that it was Kristy's turn to go. Personally, if I was in her shoes, I would have lost my composure a few times ago in the bottom twelve. I think she'll do swell in Nashville!
An All Boy Final 3?
Kurt brought up an interesting idea tonight. He thinks David A., David C. and Jason will be the final 3. I think he may be right. Thoughts?
I'm glad Brooke got to stay tonight. I think she's a very genuine entertainer. I enjoy her performances and her "real-ness". She may not always be perfect, but that's one of the things I like about her. Unfortunately, I don't think America will agree with me for much longer. Here's hoping she can step it up a bit and make it through for a few more weeks.
I don't think it was totally fair that on one of Kristy's better weeks that she got the boot. But American Idol isn't about being fair! And speaking of the fair...I'm sure Kristy will be singing at a county fair near you this summer. :o) It's also entirely possible that we'll see her face in some sort of make-up or skin care advertisement...she really is beautiful.

My thoughts about the Top 7
So this was a pretty intense night. I thought every contestant did rather well. There weren't any huge screw ups, which was nice.
I thought that David Archuleta did phenomenal! I loved how he kind of threw it around. That's one of my favorite songs and I was very proud of him! Pretty sure he's going to win, if not he'll be in the top 2. He has a wonderful voice! I really want him and Josh Groban to do a duet!
David Cook did well. I loved that he put his twist on it, but I honestly don't like it when it goes that low. I think he did that last week with the Our Lady Peace song, and I feel he shouldn't push his voice so much. When he hit the chorus, I loved it though! If he were to do that single, more than likely I would download it and put it on a CD...
Kristy Lee Cook, I thought she did really well. Comparative to the rest of her performances. No way is she going to make it to to top three, but I felt that she did really well with what she had. I thought she was trying to stretch her voice a little too much as well, they need to stay in their range... it sounds a lot better!

She has an amazing range and is a great singer, but I have a hard time watching her. Plus her appearance doesn't really match the type of music she sings. With all of those tattoo's down her arm, I expect her to rock out, and I only saw that on the first Beatles week. She is talented though! I can't dispute that!

Jenny's Thoughts on Top 8
We really do have some great contestants this season. It kind of makes me realize how poor the talent was last season :0(. There were a few good people last year, but for the most part they were all just mediocre, in my opinion. I am definitely impressed with the contestants this year. Don't we have a great selection this year?

Michael Johns "Dream On" - First and foremost, the scarf has got to go! Other than that, I really enjoyed this performance. I absolutely love the song and I thought he did a great job with it. I understand what the judges mean about him not being a "rocker" dude, but I still think he had the voice for this song. He did a great job and I really liked it.

Syesha "(When You) Believe" - She is definitely lacking in the individuality department. I don't think contestants should sing songs that previous Idol winners have sung on the show. I think it's dorky. Syesha reminds me of Wayne Brady when she smiles - they have the same smile. I think she's gorgeous but this week I finally realized that I am sick of her. It's weird because I was a huge fan of hers at the start, but she doesn't seem as professional as most of the other contestants. Who is Syesha, really? Is she Whitney? Fantasia? Who?

Jason Castro "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" - I loved it. I thought he did a great job. He really seems to know who he is. I think he will be safe this week.

Kristy Lee Cook " Anyway" - She definitely needs to stick with the country songs because she does much better at them. I'm not necessarily a fan of hers, but I thought she sounded good this week. I think this is her best performance so far. She seemed really comfortable up there. Yes, it was pitchy in some places, but I thought she did a good job. I think she might be safe this week.
David Cook " Innocent" - Uh, not really sure what to say here. When I saw his jacket I thought, "Whoa, how did they get Michael Jackson to perform?" then I realized it was David Cook and I cringed. I am a fan of his, but I did not "get" this performance at all. I hated the way he sang the beginning of it and I thought it sounded like the cheesy 80s version of "We Are the World". I didn't like his facial hair and I think the "Give back" thing he wrote on his hand was kind of weird. It's too bad because I thought he was phenomenal the week he sang "Billie Jean". Let's hope the real David Cook is back next week.

Carly Smithson "The Show Much Go On" - It's weird that this week's theme was "Inspirational Songs" and she sings a song like she's mad at the whole world. Strange. Very strange. Once again, she does have a good voice and I think the make-over crew at American Idol is doing a great job with her. I didn't love the tight pants or the gold belt though but she is looking really pretty. All in all, this performance was good but not super-wow. She might be in trouble this week.

David Archuleta " Angels" - I loved that he sat at the piano to sing. I loved this performance and I especially loved when he got louder and more into the song. The runs at the end were fantastic. It was a strong performance and I think this puts him back in the running as the favorite to win it all.

She has seemed a little uncomfortable and out-of-sorts with some of her song choices. I want the Brooke back who knew who she was and was a strong, confident performer. Finally, America Got it Right!
All I have to say is, It's about time! I can't tell you how happy I was with the results of last night's show! Yay! I was pretty sad though that Brooke White was in the bottom three, but she's had a few weeks of not so good. But I'm still rooting for her! Go Brooke!

Paula: "You are... Brooke White." Wow. She's just so astute, it amazes me!
So, tonight was the top 9. I'm kind of surprised that nobody has written anything yet. So I guess I will. I thought tonight actually went pretty well. And I'm realizing that I really do like quite a few of these top contestants. I stated to my roommate that although people have been saying this for awhile, I think that generally this could be the most talented group we've seen so far. Not saying the best person ever has been on this season, but as an entire group, they really do pretty well.
My personal bottom three - Kristy Lee Cook (can't she be gone already), Ramiele, and Michael Johns. I just think that everyone else is so much better than them! That is probably not how America is going to vote. But those three are definitely the worst ones (not that they're bad, just not as good) still there.
Other thoughts - I really liked what Brooke did. I think she's great. And, her hair looked fabulous tonight! :) David Cook did a good job as well. He's not my overall favorite. Just cause he's not. But he does do a very good job of being consistently good week to week. I actually really liked Jason's performance this week. I thought it was fun, I thought he was stretching himself, and throwing in a little reggae never hurt anyone! Carly - still has a fantastic voice. Although I do have to agree with Simon. On the news (click here)lately, it has been reporting that David's father has been running his show and being a "backstage dad" and basically pulled him out of the running.
What does everyone think about their prediction?

I'm sort of at a loss to explain why Syesha keeps ending up in the bottom three. I am interested in hearing all of your opinions. I don't get it. She's beautiful, she's a phenomenal singer, she has a great personality. So why the lack of a strong fan base? Even Ramiele, who has been lacking week after week has managed to stay out of the bottom three.
